A Touch of Class

It took three months of meticulous planning, numerous meetings, unearthing and contacting alumni from across the decades... and, in the process, a core team of XL alumni (see the team in action at the end of this page) formed and came together at Kolkata.

XLRI Regional Alumni Meet, held at Nalbon, Kolkata on September 10th '05, was a different event than what many had experienced previously...

  • It was a regional meet, with participation not just from Kolkata, but also from Bhubneshwar, Jamshedpur... and even alumni dropping in from Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Singapore!

  • It had participation from 3 XLRI directors. Fr Ed McGrath, specifically, came from Bhubneshwar to grace the occasion:

(L to R): Fr E Abraham, Fr Ed McGrath & Fr N Casimir Raj

  • It had the ambience of Nalbon, numbers performed by Carlton Kitto, 100 Pipers and Kingfisher (and of course, Pepsi), culliniary delight from Bhajohori Manna... and a gathering of around 150 alumni (& spouses), ranging from 1964 to 2005 batches... from Day batches, BME, GMP, Exec-PGP, Satellite programs

There was a touch of class - and inclusiveness - to the event!!!!

Here are some snapshots, as covered by an amateur photographer:

The Team that Made This Happen

But for this core team - Surajit Sanyal, Hari Mohan Jha, DP Ghosh, Partho Mukhopadhyay, Ranjeev Lahkar, Vikash Pasad, Himanshu Raj, Priya Chandna, Chandrakant Pai... and many others, of whom I know, I may not be aware of - this event would not have been possible. They also represented a unique XL feature, where people ranging from 69-to-05 batch can gell as a team, and deliver.

Kudos to these planners, organisers, implementers!!!

Here are some of the snapshots of some of this team working "behind the scene" on 10th afternoon (I wish I also had some pix of the almost daily meetings that they used to have to plan the event):

  • Seagram
  • United Breweries
...and forgive (and inform) me, if I have missed out a name
